How I Stay Inspired as a Creative Entrepreneur

Since adding an education component to my business, a question I get asked fairly often is “How do you stay inspired?”. I think this is such an important question & am excited to share some ideas to help us all get those creative juices flowing!

Get out of your house & out of your head.

When I start to feel stuck, I change up my environment. If I’m in the mood to work, I’ll pack up my laptop & head to a local coffee shop. If I’m not so much in the mood to work & feel like I need to step away, I’ll go on a walk or have lunch with a friend. I know sometimes it’s hard to stop working but I promise your productivity will increase so much after a break that it won’t feel like you’ve lost any time at all!

Surround yourself with positivity.

Three of my favorite ways to do this are expressing gratitude, surrounding myself with the right people & consuming media that makes me feel inspired.

Express gratitude. Whether it’s mentally, out loud or written, gratitude is huge mood changer. To do this consistently, I try to pair it with something that is already a habit. For example, mentally list 3 things you’re grateful for every time you brush your teeth or write in a gratitude journal while drinking your morning coffee.

Surround yourself with the right people. As a child you don’t really get much say in who comes into your life. So I think sometimes, as adults, we forget that we do have that choice now. If someone is a constant source of negative energy in your life, you can choose to not spend time with them. Vice versa, you can seek out new people to spend time with who have similar goals & values to you so you can lift each other up.

Consume media that makes you feel inspired. In my free time, I am always looking for the next motivational book to read or podcast to listen to. The next time you’re tempted to scroll through social media & get discouraged by the comparison game, consider doing one of those things instead. One of my favorite books to start with would be You are a Badass by Jen Sincero & one of my favorite podcasts is Earn Your Happy with Lori Harder. I have many many more recommendations & may turn those into their own separate blog soon!

Create a plan.

But wait, plans aren’t exciting. Isn’t inspiration & creativity suppose to get you excited? Sure, but first you need to be in the right headspace. I start my day with a few things that I always do before getting to work - eat a healthy breakfast, exercise & do something for my soul (yoga, meditation, gratitude journaling, etc.). After this, my mind feels so clear & I’m ready to take on the world so I sit down & line out my day. When you work alone, it’s so easy to get distracted because no one is there to hold you accountable. This system works for me & keeps me on track. It may not be your thing, and that’s totally fine. Just find what works for you!

Well, that’s it friends! I hope you got something out of this & feel a little better equipped the next time you’re feeling uninspired! If you want me to be your personal hype girl & help you stay inspired, feel free to check out my mentorship options HERE.
